Dynamic Surgery

Dynamic surgery is part of a new generation of plastic surgery whereby functional movement is preserved, created, or restored.  Traditional surgery has largely centered on fixing tissue to another part of tissue with the use of sutures to create a desired effect.  However, this type of surgery leaves a non-mobile, non-dynamic, and static post-operative result.  In the case of eyelid surgery, this traditional method leaves a visible scar at the location of the incision that is noticeable when one’s eyes are closed.  Due to the use of traditional and artificial sutures, the double eyelid fold becomes unnaturally deep and does not move when the eyes open and close. In a dynamic surgery, even though an incision is made, tissue is mobilized so that tissue does not have to be directly connected with sutures.Dynamic surgery mobilizes tissue and combines physiology with physics to recreate the natural tissue movement at its ideal tension.  This concept of dynamic surgery, detailed research on anatomy, and applied physics with physiology, has been published in several peer-reviewed journal for plastic surgeons including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal Global Open.

In the case of rhinoplasty, traditional surgery creates a hard, stiff nose that does not move like a nose that has not been operated on.  Rhinoplasty that utilizes dynamic surgery techniques creates a nasal tip that is mobile and flexible like a natural nose.  The bridge of the nose is soft and does not create an unnatural sharp light reflex when taking high-resolution photos.

Each component of surgery including the breast and face, apply the principles of dynamic surgery to give the most physiologic and natural results.
