What Is Awake Breast Augmentation?
Awake breast augmentation is a procedure Dr. Kim performs in Beverly Hills using local anesthetic, without general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Patients can remain comfortable and relaxed throughout surgery.
By avoiding general anesthesia, patients can also avoid many of the risks and complications associated with being fully under during surgery. This can include postoperative grogginess, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, and disorientation. Some studies have found that prolonged exposure to general anesthesia or IV sedation is associated with a higher risk of cognitive decline compared with procedures performed under local anesthesia.
Our awake breast augmentation patients often experience less downtime and a smoother and faster recovery. Because the procedure is performed under local anesthesia only, patients are able to get up and move on their own and begin their recovery right after surgery.
During consultation, Dr. Kim will carefully evaluate you to determine whether awake breast augmentation is the right option based on your health history, aesthetic goals, and anatomy.
