Subbrow lift or infra brow lift is a procedure where the skin and fat are removed just below the brow region. This is an excellent procedure for patients with pre-existing double eyelid fold or double eyelid crease. As patients age, the eyelid skin sags and the double eyelid fold or double eyelid crease will appear small. Many of these patients are concerned that their natural double eyelid fold will appear unnatural if they undergo double eyelid surgery.
If typical incision double eyelid surgery is performed, then the postoperative incision will not appear as natural as their original double eyelid fold or crease.
It is important to mention that if advanced “harmonious double eyelid fold surgery” is performed, then the postoperative incision will appear similar to their natural double eyelid fold or double eyelid crease.
Yet, one drawback to performing double eyelid surgery in aging eyelid is that the skin just above the double eyelid fold or crease needs to be removed. So what is left is the thick brow skin. Therefore, there is a noticeable transition between the thin brow skin and the thin eyelid skin.
What is more optimal is that the thick brow skin is removed. By removing the thick brow skin, the eyelid will appear thin and not puffy. In addition, there is no transition of thick and thin skin. Therefore, the eyelid appears smooth.
In subbrow or infrabrow procedure, the double eyelid fold is not performed. Thus, in patients without double eyelid fold or double eyelid crease, the subbrow procedure can concomitantly be performed with the double eyelid surgery.
The subbrow or infrabrow lift can also be performed with double eyelid surgery and eyelid ptosis surgery as well. Or the subbrow lift can be performed with ptosis surgery in patients with pre-existing double eyelid fold or double eyelid crease.
The subbrow lift or infrabrow lift is a powerful procedure that should be utilized in patients with puffy eyelids or in patients with pre-existing double eyelid fold or double eyelid crease. However, subbrow lift should not be performed in patients with short brow to double eyelid fold distance or in patients with wrinkles between their eyes at the radix of the nose. This is because subbrow lift will not correct these issues.
These types of patients will benefit from a forehead lift.
